How to Add Jane Austen-Inspired Decor to Your Home

IMG_1626

If you love Jane Austen half as much as I do, you’ve probably tried to figure out ways to incorporate Austen-inspired decor into your home. Honestly, I just love Jane Austen so much that I want there to be small reminders of her stories around my home. But there’s a catch – I don’t want those reminders to be so feminine or girly that they drive my poor husband crazy!

If you’re anything like me, you probably struggled with this at first, too. In fact, I got so frustrated at finding a balance that I nearly gave up. However, over the course of the last year, I’ve figured out how to do it subtly and with taste.

If you know me and my neutral decorating style from following me on Instagram, then what I am about to say may shock you a little: I have a color crush.

Yes, little miss “I Only Do Neutrals” is in LOVE with the color BLUE this season! I can’t get enough of looking on Pinterest at blue and white decor, like this living room. And, after looking on Wayfair, TJ Maxx and H&M online, I just couldn’t help but share my finds with you. I’m also including a few of my blue and white prints from Simply & Ardently! Live Simply. Live Ardently. Live Well.

As some of you may know, I have been dabbling in a side business for a little while now. For the past several years, I have worked full-time as a graphic designer, but I felt like I needed a creative outlet where I could design anything and everything that tickled my fancy. And so my Etsy shop was born.

In the summer of 2015, I started designing wedding invitations and I listed a few of them on Etsy. And then life got busy and I gave up on it. I let my listings expire and focused on other things in my life that were more important.

“It was such a blessing to find myself thriving in the middle of the pain. Unless you find a way to do that, there’s always going to be this fake illusion that once you get there–wherever “there” is for you–you’ll be happy. But that’s just not life. If you can’t find happiness in the ugliness, you’re not going to find it in beauty, either.” Joanna Gaines

In January 2016, something really exciting happened for me and my husband – we closed on our very first house! We were so excited (and a little stressed), but it’s safe to say we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into.

The DIY Wreath You Need This Christmas

img_8290

It’s been a crazy busy few weeks, but I am glad to be back to writing today and super excited to share a fun holiday craft!

I’ll start off by saying – as I have said before – that I am not a crafty person by nature. I attempted my first Pinterest project in 2012, and it took me two tries, at least four trips to the store and a good five hours of my life I’ll never get back. It was supposed to be a simple project, but for me it turned into a nightmare. After that, I decided crafts just weren’t my thing.

One of My Favorite Ways to Decorate (+ Free Printable)

it-is-well-mockup

When my husband and I were first married, we lived in a really cute little rental condo. Being that it was my first time having my own place to decorate, I had so many ideas for how to make it our own. But let’s be honest, we really needed to recuperate from the cost of our wedding. So naturally, I didn’t have much of a budget to work with. I ended up waiting on a lot of things that were on my wish list. I just kept saying to myself, “In a year, when we buy our first house, I’ll decorate it the way I want to.”
